I can assure you when you go to a competition where it's one against another, the attacks are real and so is the defense and it's not slow like this.

People have to keep in mind on all these vids one thing, they do it slow to show you for one, and to practice it for another. You don't learn something at bar fight speed and then practice it that way. You learn it slow and then through combative practice you learn faster and through doing it over and over you can then use it to defend yourself against real attacks. That's the purpose of time spent in a dojo.

@arjybarjy I agree 150%! Nowadays most places just teach technique and all that and lack discipline which in my opinion is also VERY important.

Clear and well demonstrated. I HATE all these "Mine is the one true way" wankers. They've forgotten that all of the original masters like Funakoshi, Miyagi, Mabuni etc. used to train together even though now they're credited with founding completely different styles. Bunkai isn't designed to be 100% realistic. It's a stepping stone to the individual expanding karate by tailoring the techniques in the kata to fit their body type and capabilities. Bunkai just gives you a possible use for the techs

Great.......when your opponent is totally compliant and does just what you expect / want him to do......
Everyone is so critical.....Maybe his intent is to simply show basic bunkai applications. We have so many experts commenting on here.
