Follow Congressman McHenry on a tour of his annual town halls across Western North Carolina. Record turnout and passionate concerns about healthcare marked each meeting.
So yes, the people against it are people who are lucky enough to be blessed with luck. "Pull yourself up by the bootstraps" is a psychological message that we deserve what we get. And that makes all those hardworking insured folks who cant afford to go to the doctor feel terrible, and those who have misfortune befall them and have no insurance feel terrible as if their bad luck is their fault and not the system. The system caters to the companies. That's the whole problem.
That's a good point. Many of the people mimicing the rhetoric about socialism and killing granny are people who have been blessed with luck and have been self-duped into believing it's somehow it isnt luck to be thankful for, but that they are more deserving than their neighbor. Everyone should have coverage. This whole "Take care of your own, if you don't have insurance that's not my problem" is lack of compassion plain and simple, and it's also unappreciative of their good fortune.
People who work like a dog to buy insurance they can't even afford to use is the problem. That 65% of working underinsured that the insurance companies are dictating healthcare to are the victims. Im not sure why Average Joe is so concerned with keeping competition away from the big companies. I thought that was what capitalism was all about. Competition. People scream offering government option is socialism, but catering to corporations is more facsism than socialism.
.....also did anyone notice from any of these town hall meeting videos most of the " constituents " are 55yrs of age or more? If you look close at the crowds you will see no Black or Hispanic citizens in attendance . Coincidence ? or Redneck politics ?
McHenery sent out e-mails to his supporters to advise them of a new town hall meeting place, then announced it to the general public of Catawba CO. 2hrs. before the start of the meeting. He knew this would send anyone with an opposing position on health care on a wild goose chase and thus present a false show of support. So much for an open debate.
Healthcare's been corroded by sheer greed of insurance companies. As someone who has been without insurance, government choice would be preferable than going without because of an inability to meet an unreasonable premium set by an industry with a monopoly. So the idea that we control our own healthcare now is a myth - care is dictated at whim by money-hungry monopolies. Reform should be about competition, not catering to the companies. Obama's plan adds this competition with more choice.
