Edwin Fischer, K. 503, Movement 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIIkkFFVSGs
---------------------------------------------------------------
Walter Gieseking (1895-1956) is soloist in this 1953 recording of the Mozart piano concerto in C major, K. 503. The Philharmonia Orchestra is conducted by the Austrian conductor Hans Rosbaud (1895-1962). I recorded this audio track from an LP issued in 1956 under the Angel (EMI) label, serial number 35215. Program notes by the late British pianist, music critic, musical administrator and Mozart authority Sir William Frederick Glock (1908-2000) on slipcase. (Glock studied for three years under Artur Schnabel in Berlin, and was chief music critic of "The Observer" from 1934 to 1939.)
Movement 1, Part 1: Allegro maestoso (Cadenza by Gieseking)
Part 1 of 4 parts
Orchestrally speaking, this is the grandest of all Mozart's piano concertos. The solo part has has power and poetry in equal balance. Gieseking and the PO under Rosbaud have the full measure of the work's architecture and substance. I have this recording as a mp3 download, but the LP sounds much better. Many thanks, David, for posting.
