  • Ad orientem just means "facing East" - the priest doesn't have his back to the people, rather, he and the people face the same way, towards God.

You can have Mass ad orientem for the Novus Ordo in English or Latin... the Extraordinary Form is, of course always ad orientem.

  • I don't get the bit about the guy in the black robe (was it a Master's robe) and hood.

  • It's actually his graduation gown (I think BA rather than MA...) which the chap wears when he plays the organ at the Mass before the one being set up here... he just hasn't taken it off.

Why he needs to wear the gown for playing the organ escapes me, but it keeps him happy, so...

  • Very nice. I have a question. Just to clarify is the Ad Orientem the Novous Ordo Mass, but with the priest facing East (with back turned to people) and in Latin?

  • You know, that Tablet woman's right. It's a great deal of fuss. I think you should leave it like that for all Masses! ;-)

  • What on earth is that woman doing in the sanctuary and touching the altar appurtenences no less. Disgraceful.
