  • I am very curious as to how you manage to punch with those firsts. Your thumbs are either sticking out or you have your index and middle fingers wrapped around them. Punching with a fist like that will break your thumb. How do you manage to do knuckle push-ups?

  • Actually I have them in the traditional style. Standard fist with my thumb on the first knuckle of the index finger, an not tucked or sticking out. I have large hands. i am 6'5 so maybe that may be the reason it would appear that way. Thank you

  • My two cents - punches/ blocks need to be quicker, second after you turn the lower blocks are meant be done quickly in knife block position to cover your groin as you bring your other hand to to block upwards - your hands doing the lower block are loose

Second kicks are too low - should be till your rib height..

Third - you need to go down further during your break position. You've got the basic moves are fine but you need to sharpen them to make it correct.

  • I was taught to never allow your kick to go above your belt, quicker and harder to grab or deflect. Thanks

  • makes me feel allot better about my Seisan...

  • What would posess someone to say such a mean and unecessary thing? You took time to watch, pull up the comments page and say something so rude. I hope your sensei doesnt read what you wrote.

  • @hhk213 you wont break your thumb it actually strengthens punches and the stability of your wrist. vertical fist is a trademark part of isshinryu. and since you dont throw corkscrews its actually slightly faster than most karate punches. the snapping back of the punches inflicts more pain than simply following thru and pushing, it also keeps the limbs bent so that your attacker doesnt lock them and break your knees or elbows..if they know jiu jitsu its really handy.

  • Good video! Forget what everyone else says, every body learns the kata a different way. You did great.

  • Work on your stances, and kicks above the waist. My Sensei told me kick obove your Obi and bigger blocks are better. I think your main problem is hand techniques. Your thumb should be over your fist, not in or to the side of it, and extend. A full punch will be stronger. And on the subject of punches, start from the hip, as with all hand techniques, and punch toward your solar plexus. Block big, and have it outward, not too close to your body. Work on stance!!!

  • might i make a suggestion, and no I'm not going to pick on your Seisan, But next time you film any of your kata other than Chinto or Naihanchin, film it from either a side view or at an angle, because alot of the beauty of your kata was lost on your forward shot, and for the viewers both Isshinryu and otherwise it would better show you technique and skill sets to catch it from the side that way they would see more of the technique and less of your back side.

  • What a rude thing to say...
