  • One of my professors during my studies in Strasbourg drove such a Corvette. It was so beautiful but I never had enough money to own one :-(

  • There's still time but I do think they're somewhat more expensive today. On a slightly different subject -- it was, and still is, very unusual to see a Corvette in France. Must have been an interesting professor.

  • Someone commented that they couldn't afford a Corvette. Do some research. Took me a while, but at age 62, I got my first one. A used one, but in excellent shape. 2001. I can be done... and more importantly...It SHOULD be done! Better than I had anticipated!

  • "Finest Head-in valve engine", how Chevy thought they could get away with putting the tired Chevy stovebolt six in this mated to a TWO speed automatic an and call it a sports car is still the funniest joke of the 50's...its a wonder the car sold at all and no wonder the T-Bird walked all over it the first few years it was out.

  • Garroway liked this car a lot--appeared in a number of early commercials--and drove Corvettes for the rest of his life, until he passed away in the early 80s. He got a new one every time they made a major change (had one of the first V8s, one of the first fuelies, one of the first Sting Rays, and so on).

  • They got away with it because back then, many drivers didn't have the sophistication or the knowledge to understand what manufacturers were selling them. Many phrases like: "Cruise-0-Matic" and "Dyna-Flo" , etc., were meaningless words used to sell cars and these phrases told you nothing but they sure did sell cars, didn't they? LOL.

  • I wonder why GM didn't show off this car's speed and agility in their early commercials?

  • Owned 1969 Roadster, 4spd. (Convertible) when I was 24. Fun to drive, short term. Road like a hay wagon, but sure handled nice. My mistake, not buying a Hemi Cuda instead of the Corvette, but at that time my investment was in chasing the ladies, and it sure was a magnet where that was concerned. Now a 1970 Hemi Cuda on the other hand. That's the epitome of a 1960's American Muscle car.

  • @IRONSEAN7 Well true. But I still prefer ford.

  • @christiantransfan i love fords,,,, 70% of me would call me a ford guy,, but to say the T-bird is better is a lil outa line,, witha a BIG LOL!!!!!! ya,,, they made some SWEET T-birds,, i would love me a a 55-60s bird,,,,,an 02 t bird is nice too,, but look at the vette today,,, the Zr1 makes over 600hp... and DESTROYS supercars from germany and italy,, oh and japan.. for 1/3 the cost,,, you wanna talk about what T-birds been up to since 2002???? sorry,, love tbird but Vette is nasty

  • I had one like this. It was plastic -.-

  • Eh fords thunderbird is better.

  • @gumbypiz I agree that engine was a dog. The 53 was a rough ride too, it took Zora Duntov to start the Corvette on the path to the world class car it is today

  • vito scalleta owns this !
