Sure but will the energy be free to homes? Not businesses but people? ONLY when energy is decentralized will people be free. Otherwise this is more capitalist bull poop. I'm not a socialist or communist, but the sun is there for all humankind, & we need to find ways to harvest the energy & distribute it with the lowest possible cost. Solar farms as depicted here are capital intensive & create energy dependency = slavery. This is clearly a scam as energy is so lucrative you'd need no supporters!!

We are big fans of decentralised energy. The fact that PV and wind lend themselves to smaller-scale, local installations is a great way for people to become more independent of utlility companies and builds support for the transition to renewables by giving local communities a stake. However, both wind and PV provide power intermittently. That's why we support CSP. Heat storage means it can provide power when there are gaps in supply and therefore support the rollout of decentralised solutions.

Great video. It would make to translate this to French and Arabic (a voice over will be better than subtitles) since Desertec mission starts in countries that understand mostly in countries that speak Arabic and French. Most of the financial support so far came from these countries. I can help out.

Hi Hurry2011 - thanks for the offer! We're working on subtitles for this right now so if you send an email to socialmedia@desertec.org we can send you everything you need to do the translation.
You're right about the voiceover in different languages. Budget-permitting hopefully we can do that sometime soon.

Solar power plants in the Sahara can be built by private companies - and it would be profitable. The EU should stick together to finance the electricity cable from Northern Africa to Southern Europe. But instead, every country is cooking their "own soup". What Brussels does finance by billions and billions of € is the survival of banks, because politicians have their money stuck in these banks. That is as far as politicians care. Long-term energy supply does not seem to be a priority.

So you make the desert a power plant, to fuel the northern west?
When wil the african sub sahara profit from its resources?
You could also use it to help the third world. Much potential is in there. but not enough love to share isn' t there... Even if this wil blow up. And you make 160x the power we use, are you willing to give energy to sub saharan afica?

Are we sleepwalking into disaster? I think I'm right in saying many respected climate scientists now believe we are already too late to stop 6deg ?.. whilst most of the public don't understand how bad things are going to get.
