About 2009. Seoul Snow JAM
Gwanghwamun, the square of South Korea, is being transformed into a festival of winter activities. To boost interest in winter sports among people nationwide and help the nations bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, Seoul City is hosting the 2009 Seoul Snow Jam event at Gwanghwamun Square from Dec. 11 to 13. The three-day event is also aimed at letting the world know that the nations mountain resort city PyeongChang is well prepared to win the bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

With organizers lighting an electric signboard displaying the name of the event and then delivering a welcome speech, the opening ceremony of the 2009 Seoul Snow Jam was held. The opening ceremony included a laser performance featuring images of Light of Seoul Sweeping across the Globe and a digital Olympic Flame lit to help South Korea win the bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Following the opening ceremony, organizers presented a ski jump, snow scooter and snowboard gala show from 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 11. In addition, world figure skating champion Kim Yu-na made a congratulatory performance via video and South Koreas national figure skater Kwak Min-jeong presented a show.

Between Dec. 12 and 13, a snowboard competition is expected to draw keen attention. On Dec. 12, a total of nine top-ranking athletes from home and abroad will join snowboard super matches.
