(4.23.10) -- Arizona Governor Jan Brewer rebukes Barack Obama and signs a tough new immigration bill into law.

Amnesty proponents suffer a demoralizing setback as pro-legal immigrant forces in Arizona and throughout the United States of America celebrate what will be characterized as a conservative victory.

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has already put out a statement condemning the bill.

The legislation was written by Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce: http://bit.ly/9PNhfB

Both incumbent Senator John McCain and his 2010 Republican primary challenger, J.D. Hayworth, support the new law: http://bit.ly/cMvUQ5 (Hayworth); http://bit.ly/aFJIj6 (McCain)

The murder of Arizona rancher Robert (Rob) Krentz by a suspected illegal immigrant moved the Arizona bill forward: http://bit.ly/b8Km9u

Along with Arizona, the three states which border Mexico in the United States are New Mexico, California and Texas http://bit.ly/cJQLPO

As of 2006, the largest segment of Spanish-speaking illegal immigrants that are coming to the USA are from the following countries: Mexico, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. http://bit.ly/bCm7Qs

Many pro-legal immigrant advocates would like the United States government to build a border fence or series of border fences along the USA-Mexico border. Barring such action, some such advocates have resorted to private funding drives in hopes of building such fencing: http://bit.ly/3PNwhz

Many observers feel that the new Arizona law is a stinging rebuke to former Arizona Governor and current Secretary Of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano -- http://bit.ly/9ytE7G

Though the law is supported by 70% of Arizona residents according to polling, their are plenty of opponents of the new legislation as well, including Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and Democratic US Rep. Raúl Grijalva of Tucson http://bit.ly/cWGfC0

Mayor Gordon has said he may sue over the new law: http://bit.ly/bJAPgu

The law will require immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times: http://bit.ly/aLGfGx

One of the concerns of pro-legal immigration activists is the threat of terrorism due to porous borders: http://bit.ly/b0bx1r

Another concern of those who oppose illegal immigration is the ongoing illicit drug trade between the United States and Mexico, and the crime associated with it: http://bit.ly/9BdqVw

The threat of violence for law enforcement officers and civilians is ever-present in many border communities as dangerous drug cartels use known routes for their smuggling schemes: http://bit.ly/cKdS47

As expected, the new law has sparked discussion on the bitterly divisive topic of immigration reform http://bit.ly/bkFyUf

  • I am hispanic of Mexican origin and I support SB1070. Thank You Jan, Illegal is not a race.

  • The problem with 1070 is that it grossly impacts LEGAL residents. Consider this: I take my 12 year old daughter and 6 of her friends to a water park on her birthday. An officer stops me for anything. With 1070, he can hold us for as long as it takes for me to prove that all of those girls are legal citizens. What do I do? Have their parents rush down to the station with the girls' birth certificates? Is a birth certificate enough proof? It doesn't have a picture and the law does not say.

  • We have been down this states rights thing before and di not learn anything.

  • @jennyjennyable Better watch it that may be misconstrued as "racist" lol, but you are right. Enforce the damn law its too easy not to.

  • Thank you Governor Jan Brewer for stepping up to the plate and doing what our Federal Govt. has failed to do...Keep up the great work...Come November 2010, we the people need to get rid of most all the House of Representatives and the Senate. Limit terms to no more than 8 years...And wtf are they doing up there, giving themselves a raise and not increasing the cost of living to our elderly who already struggle to make ends meet....

  • I despise Jan Brewer and hope karma comes to her.

  • Judge's injunction blocks portion of SB-1070 that enforces Alien Registration Act passed by Congress in 1940, and puts Arizona in a position of committing a state crime by violating federal law.

  • Didn't they make a choice to be underrepresented the minute they elected to come to this country in violation of immigration law? If I were a legal immigrant, I would be frustrated and outraged by the negative image and bad name given to my "underrepresented" community by the self-same people who defy the laws of this society by dwelling here illegally.

  • YEEEEE HAWWWWWWW

  • I agree with this law!! We, the citizens of this country that are paying taxes to pay for the roads and parks, schools, police, and who pay the salaries of our government officials, should be the ones that get to vote on this bill. I am sick of seeing everything where I live in Spanish. I`m sick of the over crowding in our schools and prisons by illegals. I`m SICK of them taking advantage of the system. I`m SICK of the crime they bring here. It`s not the safe world we grew up in thanks to them.

  • GOOOO JAN!!! WHOO HOO BOUT TIME WE ACT,,,CALIFORNIA AND NEW MEXICO NEED TO STOP PLAYING BLIND MICE!!! HOOT HOOT
