Just Music. Enrico Caruso sings "Amor Ti Vieta" from "Fedora" by U. Giordano in this remastered recording where he is accompanied by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. The vocals were recorded on November 30, 1902 in Milan and the instrumentals were recorded in April, 2002 in Vienna.
Lanza did a better job than this in "Serenade." His to me is the quintessential version.

@camtep2you What is your point? For a great tenor like Domingo is it that hard? Do you know Italian? The phrase is la tua pupilla esprime not la tua pupilla...esprime.

@tenorotti DO YOU SING? IF YOU DON'T LET ME EXPLAIN THAT HOLDING A NOTE THAT LONG AND GOING FROM LOWER RANGE TO UPPER RANGE IT IS NOT EASY SPECIALLY BECAUSE THIS AREA IS ON THE PASSAGIO NOTES MUST OF THE TIME IS HARD VERY HARD TO HOLD THAT CHANGE OF POSITIONS AND THEN HIT THE FIRST HIGH NOTES OF THE TENORS

@Adoniram29 On the Met version Domingo sings La tua pupilla..breath.. esprime. T'amo... breath and still manages a pretty ugly high note. Nobody else steals a breath there but he has to because he has lots of problems. For a big tenor that's not very good. Both sing it faster because they can't sustain a slower tempo especially Domingo. For me the old singers used to sing this aria more romantically. I still enjoy Pavarotti's version. Try Perile.

@tenorotti Pavarotti and Domingo both give more than respectable renditions of this aria. I'm also not sure what you mean about Enrico not breathing before the A. He most certainly does. Both of the singers you mentioned had great respect for Caruso's art and drawing distinctions between them serves no purpose.

The old tenors used to sing with mezza voce and wonderful musicality. Caruso takes a beautiful tempo turning this aria into the declaration of love that it is. Domingo and Pavarotti sing this in 1:42, that is 20 seconds shorter! They rush thru it, not to mention Domingo has to steal a breath before the high note. Caruso is in another league.

Amor ti vieta di non amar.
La man tua lieve, che mi respinge,
cerca la stretta della mia man
La tua pupilla esprime: "l’amo"
se il labbro dice: "Non t’amerò"
