Thanks. The one thing I noticed in one situation is that the Kayagum was built very similar to the modern Guzheng. In this case it seems to have had a plank for the upper board and a separate frame for the sides... This accounts for the somewhat shallow sound of the Guzheng. Normally in South Korea they build kayagums of an entire piece for the upper part and perhaps a second plank for the bottom piece.
