Rebuilding a brake caliper on my 06 Mazda MX-5. I fried the brakes at the track for the 2nd time, so I'm getting pretty good at rebuilding them.

  • Don't waste your time,go buy a reman.A piston is at least twenty dollars and I would not install a new seal vs the old piston. With a reman, you save time and all you have to do is bleed the brakes.Plus the labor is cheaper than rebuilding.

  • @wafrederick you could spend $2 on a rebuild kit or spend $95 on a remanufactured caliper(which is just a used caliper that has been cleaned and has the $2 rebuild kit in it)

    It's your money.

  • Very nice work. The picture is very clear and you made it easy see and understand. I'm doing some work on my NC front brakes tomorrow, so this is really helpful. Thanks!

  • That is an excellent demo. Especially like how you re-install the boot, slipped all the way down over the piston. Excellent. Thank you.

  • great video, except i dont suggest having your fingers in the way when the piston pushes out, good chance it will fly out and smash your finger, comes out with a lot of force

  • very good explanation, tx.

  • nice camera by the looks of it..

  • I have a 03 sienna. I bleed the brakes like two times already. The front brakes are feeling spongy. When my 98 camry was spongy I rebuilt the caliper with genuine toyota parts using new seals. The sienna has 30000 miles only. Can the seals go bad over time? I am not sure if I ever overheated the seals but I was going down 10000 ft mountains. Do you recommend me to replace the seals or how do I know if they are worn out? thank you

  • Very good video.. This will help me on my rebuild. Thanks

  • Hey..!

Why not use a brake caliper assembly lube?!

I always use ATE brake cylinder lube (Bremszylinder-Paste). It is compatible with any rubber compound and brake fluid DOT 3, 4 and 5.1 - no risk of contaminating the brake fluid :)

I only have had good results with this product

    Have a look...

  • thank you!

  • @bluemeany06 The problem is that the problem is going to come back.Plus the bleeder screw might break off and you are screwed.I have seen reman calipers for $20.00.It is getting to the point starters, alternators, master cylinders including calipers and wheel cylinders are not worth rebuilding.Subtract the core charge on the reman caliper if you have it on hand.I have tried rebuiding a brake caliper, nothing but a pain in the ass to do and a waste of time.
