It was actually Pixar who made this for IML. Back the it was still under Lucasfilm and not named Pixar.

Somwhow, this sequence reminds me of the Instrumentality in End of Evangelion.

Trivia about this scene: given how long it took back then to render something like this, the makers ran into a problem. At one point, the render was crapping itself, causing even more massive delays. The problem? The camera was clipping into a single polygon of the mountain. They had to custom carve out a depression so the camera could fly through. You can sorta see it at 0:32, even if it goes by super fast.

@CLSkill Hey, it is the very fist CGI of this type. It couldnt be as good as with contemporary hardware, but still good though.

I played a arcade video game that had this graphic scene from 24seconds to about 30 seconds in the game play. It was a shooter game where your ship flew around against various video backshots. I am trying to remember what the game was, any help?

This was ILM's first completely computer-generated sequence !!!!!!!!! Its unbelievable they could have don this way back in 1982!!!!!!!!!
