  • It was actually Pixar who made this for IML. Back the it was still under Lucasfilm and not named Pixar.

  • Somwhow, this sequence reminds me of the Instrumentality in End of Evangelion.

  • Trivia about this scene: given how long it took back then to render something like this, the makers ran into a problem. At one point, the render was crapping itself, causing even more massive delays. The problem? The camera was clipping into a single polygon of the mountain. They had to custom carve out a depression so the camera could fly through. You can sorta see it at 0:32, even if it goes by super fast.

  • @CLSkill Hey, it is the very fist CGI of this type. It couldnt be as good as with contemporary hardware, but still good though.

  • Introducing the actual stage 1 "genesis device" (see at leadman22 channel called "The Infinity Device").

  • I played a arcade video game that had this graphic scene from 24seconds to about 30 seconds in the game play. It was a shooter game where your ship flew around against various video backshots. I am trying to remember what the game was, any help?

  • @111danish111 Let's also not forget the advances with TRON that also came out that same year.

  • looks cool even today :)

  • It's inspiring.
