VANCOUVER, BC - A Vancouver-area bus company has launched an investigation after this video posted on YouTube appears to show one of its drivers doing a Sudoku puzzle while behind the wheel.
Gordon McDonald was riding the Surrey, B.C., bus Monday evening when he noticed the driver was preoccupied and used his cellphone to record the incident.
"I was only on the bus for 10 blocks or so, and he was playing (the puzzle) pretty much from the time we got on," said McDonald.
Derek Zabel, spokesperson for Coast Mountain Bus Company, says officials have launched an investigation since viewing the video.
Zabel said there are no explicit policies in place outlining what drivers can and can't do behind the wheel, but he said operators are trained to follow the law and should be using common sense.
"Our operator training is a six-week program and it's all geared toward driving safely," he said.
"Coast Mountain trains our drivers to use observation skills in which they'd check their mirrors every six to eight seconds and to constantly scan. If you're doing a Sudoku puzzle, you can't be doing that."

There's plenty of solutions out there. The problem is unless you are a millionaire involved in the Olympic games Gordo the drunkard ignores you. Ask all the special needs kids having their funding yanked so Gordo can hand out millions of dollars of tickets to his fat cat friends...
If defense of the free Olympic tickets to big wigs, what do you think all companies do for their customers you idiot? I run a company and one of the things we HAVE to do to stay ahead is shit like that, it brings in more revenue. And in this case that revenue goes to the government which pays for all the things we bitch about. I'm all for making these big shots happy. Learn economics for a change, go against the NDP grain.
You don't understand, you are concerned for the children, the sick, the elderly, health, education, yet you have no concept of how they money gets generated to pay for it. You're a complainer, just admit it.
"The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."
LOL! buddy, you're running out of logical responses. To this point you have proven that you have no possible solutions to anything at all that's been brought up. It proves all my points. This isn't about left and right, it's about making sense. And all you've made is horse-shit. Good luck my friend, I can see where our paths are leading us... I feel sorry for you.
Of course its a left/right thing. Whens the last time you saw Gordo jump through his own asshole to shine the working mans ass? Never. BC gets the games and what happens? Miscellaneous Statutes Amendment Act, 2009, VANOC trademarked lines from the Canadian national anthem to serve as the slogan for the games, $300 million in loan guarantees, if fully drawn down and reneged upon, would represent about 30 per cent of the city's annual budget. YVR tax payers will get screwed.
