  • Which "chart" did this song top, I wonder? As far as I know it could not even break into top 20 in England?

  • @harisbaki : it actually went to number 14 in England ... so much for what you knew, I guess, but at least you know it now ... and knowledge is power.

  • @mistermig Well, it is not chart topping at all is it? I see you skip the first part of the question. Chart topping means going number one. Why lies?

  • @harisbaki : oh sorry, it was the UK Singles Chart .... you could have found that out with a small amount of research. Generally, a single is considered "chart topping" if it makes the Top 40. Too bad you weren't aware at the time ... guess you just weren't as with it as you'd like to think. So, 'as far as you know' really doesn't mean too much to me right now ... but I hope you enjoy the song :)

  • @36TRecords I respect your well-informed explanations but come on these are only technical details., Charttopper, in the sense of everyday use, is a single that hits number one, not a single that barely sees the low end of a top 15 and then drops like bullet. In this sense Erasure has only one charttoper in England and it is Abbaesque. I am not sure if they have had any charttopper outside England as they are not very popular in the mainland or other countries.

  • @harisbaki

Check out your definition of "CHART TOPPER".

In my industry, a chart hit is where the track lands within a zone set (ie: TOP20; would mean any of the 20 tracks found within that week, month, etc.

A "CHART TOPPER" or "HIT" refers to usually the top 5 in any zone set, whether it be the TOP20, TOP50, TOP100, etc.

What you've described is a "No.1 HIT" for that week, month, etc.

I'm not trying to be arrogant; but I have a hard time with people rattling off half of the full data..

  • @harisbaki

Check your charts registrar in your country first.

This track I believed hit #12 in the Top 20 in Canada; #4 in the TOTP/R; #9 in Billboards Top100 for the week the track was launched in the Netherlands...& more..

I will agree that perhaps it was not a club-smash-hit or anything; however, in all fairness, it did well for a light pop-house track.
