@steveelbourn Song was most definitely written by Rowland S. Howards at the age of 16. Soon after performed by Nick Cave in The Boys Next Door, the band that Rowland played guitar in.

@Piratepenny mm, i think i need to look into that. The first time i heard it was with an australian rock band back in the early 90's, then i came accross a version by nick cave, which i think predated it. I love the song, so will investigate its origins. Thanks for the heads up
