What was said?
Farsi: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."

Translation: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time".

Word by word: Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).

Words not used: Israel, wiped off, wipe out, map, world, Earth, face.

The western phrase, 'wiped off' or 'wiped out', were not used in the quote, nor was the "state" of Israel. 'Nagsheh', the word for map was not there either.

Why does everyone argue whether he said it or not on this particular occasion. Even if he didnt say it he and others in iran have said similar statements on numerous other occasions and worse. They have called for the not just the destruction of israel but also the murder of jewish people in general. He speaks a different language, there should be automatic suspicion when the media is translating him or anybody who speaks a different language in a way that promotes fear.

When that happens a person's first reaction should be "I should do some research and figure out if this is actually true." If you don't you have no claim to any amount of authority on foreign policy issues.

The entire text of the speech which the medi conveniently avoided broadcasting referenced the fall of the Soviet Union. LOOK IT UP!
