The Venus transit as seen in the 171 wavelength. This channel is especially good at showing coronal loops - the arcs extending off of the Sun where plasma moves along magnetic field lines. The brightest spots seen here are locations where the magnetic field near the surface is exceptionally strong.

You do realize that Venus could have cared less about the transit. Nothing was different for Venus at all. It continued in its orbit as it does everyday. Next time think about that.

God is good, Jesus is lord, the end is nigh, allah akbar, the market solves everything, be all you can be, have it your way, run for the border... Science is the only truth, may we all go in that direction one day.

I was expecting some intelligent comments and thought provoking conversations on this astronomical event. Instead its filled with religious promoters and comments from 12 year olds. Jean Chappe and Guillaume Le Gentil would have loved to see this back in 1769.
