The Democratic Party of Japan, a ruling party, is going to grant local
voting right to foreigners living in Japan.
I oppose it because of the following reasons.
First, among foreigners making living in Japan the biggest group is Chinese.
They come from the country of communist dictatorship and don't understand
constitutionalism let alone democracy.
Every year 30-40% of foreign criminals arrested in Japan are Chinese.
The second largest foreign group is Koreans from North and South.

Japan has territorial conflicts with South Korea over Takeshima and with
China over the Senkaku Islands.
With North Korea we have abduction problem.
If Chinese and Koreans, given local voting right, move to municipalities to
which Takeshima and Senkaku belong, Japan will face danger of severance of
its territory.
This is the second reason of my opposition to foreigners suffrage.

  • Japanese law allows them to become nationals, they don't want to! Btw, can a Korean vote in yr country? Assuming yr a Brit/Euro the answer is NO! Care to explain why not?

  • @MrPeteDocherty "try to impose his foreign nationality"... lol. Xenophobia is ultimately the same as racism no matter how beautifully wrapped.

  • And bty, these people are Korean-Japanese not Japanese-Koreans, two different species altogether.

  • @Stektanudlar A fourth generation Japanese-Korean would most probably be Japanese only (I think I know enough J-plp). If he wanted to vote in Korea he would become a Korean citizen and not impose his foreign nationality on the locals.

Koreans can vote in Korea if they like it so much.

  • @Stektanudlar A fourth generation Japanese-Korean would most probably be a Japanese only citizen (if I know Japanese well enough, and I think I do). If he wanted to vote in Korea he would become a Korean citizen and not try to impose his foreign nationality on the locals to begin with.

Koreans can vote in Korea if they like it so much.

  • @MrPeteDocherty Yeah, I'm sure you would accept that if you were a fourth generation Japanese Korean too.

  • @Stektanudlar This is not racism.

If you're a foreigner in the States you'll not be allowed to vote.

Japanese citizens living in the EU cannot vote as well! Show me just one voting Japanese in the UK!

You’re talking bull. If they don't want foreigners voting in their country it's their right to do so.

  • Basically, this is pure racism.

  • I understand this guy's argument, and I tend to agree with his basic stance, yet some of his reasons I think are weak. If the country the foreigner came from has nothing to do with it. If the foreigner gains citizenship then he may vote, that is all. I do think that Japan does have a problem though with discrimination against non-ethnic Japanese citizens and foreigners in general.

  • i like this guy - he is cuddly and makes me laugh. regarding his message, im not japanese but i believe he is 100% correct. only people who really support the peoples future( people who will live and stay in japan) should be able to vote. however having said all these i can only imagine its a pretty big blow to japan after being the ruling economy of the 80s. the dude's wife is mexican haha cool. anyway he makes it very clear. and he seems fair and just. i hope he runs your country one day.
