Lucretzia Bori was one of the most popular of sopranos during the early part of the 20th century. Her debut at the Met was in 1912, in Manon Lescaut opposite Caruso. She remained there for the next 24 years, singing 29 roles in over 600 performances, a longevity equaled by few singers. Miguel Fleta, on the other hand, who lived only to the age of 45, sang only 37 times at the Met, having debuted there as Cavaradossi in 1923. He was also popular, especially in Europe. This duet shows the voices of both singers to advantage.

  • BEAUTIFUL PERFORMANCE!!! Thank you Sir Edmund for sharing this wonderful video.

  • @MrGer2295 Thank you very much.

  • Miguel Fleta, now somewhat forgotten, has been one of the greatest tenors of all time. While Caruso's death in 1921 was traumatic for the Met, it was not so much because they got Miguel Fleta and the American public accepted him.

    Nice perfomance.

Lucrezia Bori other of the greatest of any time.

  • @jfsanin I absolutely agree with you.

  • Thank you for this beautiful duet from an opera I'm not familiar with yet.

  • You are most welcome. Yes, L'Amico Fritz is not much performed today, although it was more popular in the past. Many consider it an Italian operetta, without much substance, but that is a superficial reaction to a piece that actually has some lovely music in its favor.

  • Thanks for the Rethberg Czardas, btw. It's great!

  • Thanks, my friend. I see there is another copy or so up on the web, but I thought since I already had the movie made, I would also put it up at least for a while. Like the Spanish say, "It's never a bad year because of too much wheat:) Besides, you never know when one will get yeanked for one reason or another. )That has happened with several great postings,(Lauritz Melchior, Mark Reizen, for example) and fortunately there were duplicate copies up..

  • Both Bori and Fleta are fabulous artists, who perform this charming duet with grace and style. Also worth hearing are the versions of Schipa and Favero as well as Tagliavini and Olivero. Thanks for posting, Edmund.
