Mini touch 700 ?
-
Thanks. I'm actually using a 6 year old laptop for my pc. I picked up a touchscreen online and it connects with VGA and USB for the touch input. One of these days I'm going to actually build a custom unit and set it up to start on ignition. There's also a board you can add that allows for the steering column volume and track controls to work with the pc.
It's a '07 Ford Focus. I'm using an old JVC head unit for an amp and it's stored in the glove compartment. Cheap setup for now.

That fits perfectly in there. What monitor model is that?
And what did you use for the border? I want to do this to my 05 scion tc, but i dont know exactly what to do to keep the monitor in place. Also, did you remove the head unit and plug the speakers directly into your laptop using an amp? or did you hide the headunit?

@MrAllforpc @MrAllforpc I honestly don't remember what model it is. I picked it up on ebay a couple years back. I've looked into other screens since then and Lilliput seems to be a decent brand. If you're looking for ways to waste more money on car pc builds check out mp3car.com . I'd recommend looking into a screen with anti glare. My screen is great at night but sucks in direct sunlight. The screen somehow fit almost perfectly into the existing double din opening.

@MrAllforpc As far as the border, it actually came in the kit with the screen. I had to shave off a 1/4" or so to get it to fit in the double din opening but i kept it tight enough to hold the screen in without any adhesive. There are better ways to do it but I moved the head unit to my glove compartment and ran a cable from the laptop headphone jack to the aux in on the head unit. Probably would have skipped the head unit and gone straight to a separate amp if doing it over again

@MrAllforpc I'm tossing around the idea of scrapping the entire thing and building an android tablet into the dash. Pros: cheaper, more reliable, built in bluetooth and wifi, hands free phone calls would be easier, easy web browsing via mobile hot spot through my cell. You could even buy an app and extend your cell phone display to the tablet for $5 or so. A heck of a lot more support and thousands of apps is appealing. Did i mention reliability??

hey dude, really nice setup!!! I have all my stuff bought, but I somehow effed up my touchscreen, cause the ribbon cable wasnt plugged into the board, so the touch didnt work, and i severed it, so i had to send it back and now it's being sent bcak to me, hoepfully fixed and working, and this week I will try to install everything.
I love your setup, though, very clean! What car?
