If you smash your finger in a door hard enough, the nail will come off. He said "It needed to be done." He probably dropped something on his toe and was going to lose the nail anyway. Better to remove and disinfect than to allow it to get infected. A stupid thing to make a vid about though, but 132000+ people have watched it.
