I laugh every time I hear this. Earl was old shcool, and I think one of the best managers in Major League Baseball. Too bad he's retired- the Red Sox could use a no bullshit manager like this. He managed for Baltimore 17 years, they finished 1st 6x, 2nd 7x, 3rd once, and 7th once (his last year). ALCS 6x, WS 4x with one win in 1970. He understood the value of PITCHING, DEFENSE and 3 run homers.

Don stanhouse was an Asshole Earl had that figured out like he had almost everything else figured out.When he left the Orioles as a free agent he went to the LA Dodgers with a huge multi year contractand wasa complete failure/flopwithout Earl Weaver.Same thing for Wayne Garland,Steve Stone,Mike Torrez,Mike Cuellar,Pat Dobson,McGregor,Flanagan and more all big 20game winners with Weaver's Genius.
