Emo... Pretty sure Fugazi and Sunny Day Real Estate don't sound any like MCR or Hawthorne Heights. It's like any other genre; there are the original bands that had a unique sound, and then the later bands that took that sound and packaged it for radio. There's plenty of other examples.

Musicians have always worn makeup and all that so thats not new. "Emo" is just a term like "hair metal" and about as bad honestly. @MrBillyjoer river's songwriting i've noticed is a mixture between nirvana and the beach boys, which are his two favorite bands. Hard rock, energetic, but melodic and with harmonized vocals.
