you should fucking care. the collapse of the marine environment and its organisms leaves the future of humans hanging in the balance. to put it simply for you: if all the fish are gone, WE ARE SCREWED.

take a marine science course, it might teach you a little something.

If everyone was vegetarian, that would just lead to another set of problems.

There's only so much land for farming, and we/humas are taking up too much of that land as it is.

The real problem is too many people and mismanagement of the food we have.

I would love to be around when the humanity ends; to be the only man left on the planet and watch nature come back to life; fill the oceans and seas and the forests to be in bloom. It would take thousands of years to fix the damage we've done, but just to over-look and live those years, then slowly let myself wither away knowing that everything is going to be OK; what a wonderful fantasy.

this problem is not unique to the sea, economists call it "the tragedy of the commons." It results from the fact that fisherman have no ability to "own" their fishing grounds. If fisherman could own their fishing grounds than they would have incentive to maintain the health of their ecosystems in order to preserve its value. When they can not own their fishing grounds they compete to extract every last drop of value as quickly as possible before someone else gets there first.

It's not about cutting seafood off completely. Just be aware of where the fish comes from. I live in Finland, and it's completely okay to eat fish from our own waters. It's the great seas that are running off fishes, and not only because of fishing, but polluting. Wh

I completely cut out fish & seafood out of my diet after watching it. I have this documentary, and I watched it one day over Christmas. It scared me half to death, because I really want to become an environmentalist or a marine biologist.
