  • Probably Bruckners greatest Coda

  • I saw Mr. Wand at the Proms in 1994 on the Thursday night before the Last Night of the Proms. He conducted Bruckner's 8th. Many of the promenaders thought that it was the greatest performance they had ever seen. All held Mr. Wand in the highest esteem. He hardly moves, put his power over the orchestra and the music is immense.

  • Maybe it is the best Perfomance of this Symphony. Maestro Wand was a like GOD for

Bruckner Perfomances, he knew exactly, what he wanted. NDR SinfonieOrchestra is also for

my personal opinion something very special for Bruckner. It is always big Pleasure und Joy

to play there. This Year they play some Symphonys for 100 Birthday of Maestro Wand. I am

going to be there to play Bruckner 5 with also Great Conductor Herbert Blomstedt.

  • @Adeodatus100 Thats it to tea!!!! Happy Christmas

  • @swanningaround I played in a Bruckner 8 at the Proms with Wand and the BBCSO. I thought it was in the 80s though. An absolutely awesome performance. An extraordinary, inspiring and wonderful person to work with.

  • Bruckner takes us on an epic journey....passion, ecstacy, depths of despair but then renewal hope and salavation and always back to his 'liebes Gott' is a uniqe oddessy but wow amazing...RIP Wand for realising it here

  • Amazing ...Wand and Karajan my fav Bruckner conductors

  • "At about 3.20. What's going there?..." Up to that point Bruckner has been showing us the main theme - the "TUM TUM ... tum-ti tum tum" - from every different possible angle. At that point, he says, "Ok, let's stop playing with it: here it is, square on, full orchestra" - and the shock of it blows your brain out through the back of your head. If you think that's good, you should hear the 70 minutes that comes before it! - it all gets resolved in this last couple of minutes. Bruckner = genius!

  • At about 3.20. Whats going there? I know nothing about composition, but my vision goes blurred, my whole body tingles, i can't breath, i feel like i'm glimpsing god, but I don't understand it.

  • Amazing. Nobody conducted Bruckner like Wand. I heard him conduct this at the Proms in 1987. Just as the symphony ended (and the audience went crazy!) several St John's Ambulance crew were seen making their way through the audience. Within a few minutes it was being said that two people had collapsed, within seconds of each other, during the last orchestral onslaught.

  • Der Alte konnte was! Magnificent.

  • The relationship of Wand with the orchestra - and vice-versa- is beautiful. As the music is. Great group, collective intelligence.
