A look at the fake bombing at the ROM incident and how Thorarinn Jonsson pulled it off.

If you don't know what this is about, basically a student at OCAD planted a fake bomb in a museum as an art project and thinks it is justified. He cost an AIDS funraiser $100,000. Go to this url to read more: http://rfmcdpei.livejournal.com/1400297.html

  • Hi Fred in Toronto, part1

U r right, but so called criminal art is still an art, basicly if somebody is a sicko and that somebody catches people on streets and cut em in pieces at home, then take pictures of it, marked with his/her name tag - its still an art! art is everything somebody produces to affect people's emotions in any way, harms it other people or not(which gives emotions too again)

  • I'm a bit late on this, but I strongly disagree. Art involves creativity and thought, something that was lacking in this bomb-in-the-ROM piece. Everything emotionally affects people in some way. Does that mean everything is art? A line has to be drawn somewhere. Every art form involves creativity and at least a bit of talent. That's why making fake bombs is not art.

  • Maybe he could make $100,000 from his "art" and donate it to the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research.

  • why does your animation look/sound like a bad version of Sims characters?

  • The Marquis de Sade's memoirs are judged by most to be true literature. He did most of his writings while in jail and are from his exploits with paid prostitutes.

You are correct that the definition of what is freaky changes with time, but truth is eternal.

    Thanks

    Fred in Toronto.

  • Hi ELF; I guess you can't sleep well tonight either!!

Tolstoy said that true art is expressing personal opinion and feeling with sound, colour, music and the written word.

No eminent critic of art would agree that the suffering of an unwilling participant can be included as art.

A photo of a infant being raped by an adult is true art according to your definition; and this can NEVER be so.

  • the new comment i meant :)

  • i sent u the answer, Fred! ^_^

  • Hi Fred part 3

    Remember Donatien Alphonse-François de Sade?

He was a writer but he spent a big part of his life in jail for writing his books and at the period of time he lived in, he was pronounced "too freaky".

now u can see the same kind of books and comics on sale and in the internet.

    Time changes.

hmm...maybe my teacher was a freak, and im pretty sure he was

  • Hi Fred part2

which sounds fucked up, but thats the impression i ended up with after being tought modern art history in my art school:)so here its "a criminal art" is still can be an art, althought the creator is gonna end up behind the bars

  • Only time and the consensus of an unbiased art community will tell if this is great art and not Salem's loft.

Calling this art is like calling mass produced ikea furniture hand crafted one of a kind originals.

  • Remember personal freedoms have limitations for the benefit of all.

You can not yell fire in a crowded theatre just to express your freedom of speech.

You can not express yourself at the harm of unwilling others
