Deer can be quite vicious and have very sharp hooves (in the wild, anyway). There are stories of deer attacking humans (and videos of Youtube, for that matter).
Now, had that pup been a full grown Pit Bull, I bet there would have been a different storyline.

we spent the 4th at my friends. the fireworks spooked that deer, it came out and hung out with us. we all took pictures with it, and petted it...weird
