Do you have a link to the entire documentary? Looks awesome!

Mostly the fact that CHP, like most state highway patrols, is a special purpose law enforcement agency, whereas local departments are general service LE agencies.
You can look up the differences yourself, as it is far too much to fit in a youtube comment.

Looks like fun! Im from Colorado Springs, Colorado. About to go to a 20week Police Academy in January of 2010. Thatd be awesome to do CHP's Academy shit looks intense.

Where did you hear that? It says on their website it's continual, and the only hiring contract expires in 2011, which they'll more than likely renew.
