February 19, 1970: To honor Noel Coward on the occasion of his being knighted, Cavett interviewed not only "The Master" himself, but also his close friends, The Lunts. Tammy Grimes and Brian Bedford, who were appearing on Broadway at the time in a revival of Coward's classic play, Private Lives, performed a medley of Sir Noel's most popular songs. At one point during the interview, Cavett asked Coward, "What is the word for when one has terrific, prolific qualities?" Without missing a beat, Coward answered in a deadpan manner, "Talent," which sent Cavett and the audience into convulsions of laughter.
Marvelous episode! I wish someone would find and post the later Tonight Show episode on the occasion of Coward's 70th Birthday with Tammy Grimes & Brian Bedford, then touring in PRIVATE LIVES, doing the first scene from the play and later, "on the couch," Tammy telling a wonderful story about her daughter's reaction to her winning the Tony for the role.

I wish I was witness to Sir Coward's spectacular comedy...But alas, I was born two-decades too late.... :(

Absolutely brilliant. I saw this 41 years ago, and never thought I would ever see it again. It remains as fresh and vibrant today as it did all that time ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
