This classic New York drink, which contains neither eggs nor cream, will take you back in time to marble counters and soda shops.

To complete this How-To you will need:

1/3 c. very cold milk
A large soda fountain glass
2/3 c. cold seltzer water
2 tbsp. chocolate syrup
A long-handled metal mixing spoon

Step 1: Pour the milk into a fountain glass

Pour the milk into a large soda fountain-style glass.

Step 2: Add seltzer water to create a foam

Slowly pour the seltzer into the center of the glass. This will produce a thick, white foam at the top of the glass.

Tip: If you like your egg cream extra creamy and rich, you can increase the amount of milk used to two-thirds of a cup.

Step 3: Add chocolate syrup

Using a long-handled metal spoon, add the chocolate syrup by sliding it carefully into the glass. Try not to disturb the foam.

Step 4: Mix chocolate syrup into the drink

With your spoon, gently mix the chocolate into the drink. Try to mix it in without stirring the foam.

Tip: Mixing the chocolate into the milk before adding the seltzer water can make the foam brown instead of white.

Step 5: Serve in a fountain glass

Serve your egg cream in the fountain glass without a straw. Take a sip and enjoy this New York classic!

  • @foof811 Which is a B***H because I have ADD and can't help but make little mistakes here and there. What makes it worse is when I finally notice them after it's to late to correct it's all I can think about. o_o Lol.

  • @foof811 Dude! You can't swear on a video called "How to Make an Egg Cream"! This is a breeding ground for old people and they will swarm your comment and scold you with perfect grammar and punctuation!... Myself not being one of them of course, lol.. My parents just made me read to much as a young child and now type/speak like this out of habit. o_O Lol.

    Example: BettyASpecial. :P

  • My father in law is from Brooklyn and is 97 years young. He is lucid and walks two blocks a day......to the egg whites, he says never any crean or eggs in ...he agrees with the Howcast video. He says this is the exact way they made it back in the day. SO watch your filthy mouth foof811

  • It's not legitimate. The old ones had egg whites in them. Fucking Howcast doesn't know what an original egg cream is.

  • I'm confused.. is it suppose to taste good, if so how well does it taste?

    o_o

  • @iiSandwitch HAHAH.

  • @BlackXephos9000 I dare say you could use a long handled plastic spoon if you had one.
