David "Honeyboy" Edwards (1915-2011) was a blues singer/guitarist from Shaw, MS. In his youth he was a friend of Robert Johnson and claimed to be at the club the night that Johnson drank poisoned whiskey. In two sessions on July 20 & 22, 1942, he recorded fifteen songs for the Library of Congress in Clarksdale, MS. Edwards didn't record again until 1951 when he traveled to Houston, TX. where he recorded this song backed with "Who May Your Regular Be". It would remain his only commercial 78 RPM release in the 1950's. Sessions for Sun in Memphis, TN. in 1952, and for Chess Records in Chicago, IL. the following year never were released. Edwards went back in the studio in 1964 and 1967, but a very scant few of these recordings saw the light of day until a later time. In a better turn of fate, he made some recordings for Adelphi that were issued in 1969. He finally got his due in the 1990's, full length CD's were released by Earwig and APO. Edwards is the composer of "I'm Just Like Jesse James" (later covered by John Lee Hooker), and has long said that he was the author of "Sweet Home Chicago" instead of Robert Johnson. He is the oldest bluesman performing today, besides Pinetop Perkins, who is two years his senior. In 2007, Edwards appeared in the film "Walk Hard:The Dewey Cox Story" as himself.
