Lower even than hip-hop and trance? That's harsh man. Even heard a piece called And You and I? I mean how can you listen through it and claim something like that. Beautiful music is just beautiful music no matter what genre. Progrock tends to have a LOT of gorgeus music in it. This isn't exactly gorgeus, agreed, this isn't my favorite aspect of ELP even, but that claim is still so harsh that it verges over to even ignorance, I would say. The vast amount of good music? 7th - 20 century, I'd say
Well I can't stand hip-hop, and I don't even know what "trance" is ! I'm Roddy76to86 remember, the years when 95% of the best music was made. And if punk/post-punk was so bad then how did it manage to more or less destroy the careers of ELP, Genesis and Yes ?! Jethro Tull got a boost from it, and Neil Young's career was saved by punk.
If you compare Bach to years 76-86 then you're musically a looney.
Personal taste for personal taste, but step out of your punkdream and realize that it hasn't got anything on the truly greats. Hell, ELP is nearer but still far off.
