@lowgrowl5 Well not hate-hate level :p The thing is, I really love Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan, Pat Metheny, Brett Garsed and Frank Gambale and the like, so I should like Holdsworth and Lane but for some reason they don't appeal to me at all. Well Lane had some very beautiful slow songs. But Holdsworth is very far out and has many weird and unsettling tonalities (which is the reason for the alienreference!).

@gitboxjammer To each his own indeed! :) I think his timing and phrasing are absolutely incredible. I actually feel what you feel with Alan Holdsworth. He's an incredible musician who plays stuff most can't even dream of but I just don't like his playing! I hate myself for it, but I can't help it, his music sounds like weird alien-music to me. Same with Shawn Lane (although I like some of his stuff). They sound like the're communicating with aliens at times and I don't like it.
