"Goodbye" Starring Crystal Young, Howard Lockie, Elina Madison, Lillian Madison - Music: Ainjel Emme - Producers: Kayla Tabish, Dan Peterson - Writer-Director-Camera-Editor: Dan Peterson
Submitted February 2009 to the 168 Project "Christian" Short Film Festival, but rejected by John Ware, Founder & President of the festival. Ware claimed a brief scene involving a well known Catholic tradition "goes against the bible" and he could not allow the festival audience to be exposed to "the appearance of evil" and thus needed to be removed before it can be screened. Peterson refused to remove the scene and challenged Ware to make public his opinion thereby warning future filmmakers of the 168 Projects unwritten religious bias.
The Board of Directors, led by Producer Ralph Winter, eventually held a private vote and allowed the film to be screened in it's entirety.
Surprisingly, after the screening, the audience was not attacked by a swarm of locusts nor did anyone strip off their clothes, speak in tongues and proclaim their devotion to Satan. Nor did John Ware, Ralph Winter, or the Board of Directors accept Peterson's challenge to make public the incident involving the 168 Project's religious bias, nor have they posted their religious bias in subsequent festival entry forms to warn future filmmakers, nor have they apologized for attending a Catholic mass and inviting Catholic filmmakers to submit films only to ambush one of them, Peterson, by insulting and ridiculing his faith and traditions.
What was the specific appearance of evil the 168 Project wanted to protect the festival audience from? You decide -- www.backroadpictures.com
