Expensive demonstration but I'm sure he knows what he is doing far more than I do.
Myself I have used logs but with a blunt sword.I do that to save my sharp sword from being blunted and me spending hours resharpening it!Guess I'm lazy as much as anything.
But second because wood can get a vice like grip on even a Axe and wrenching or twisting could bend or break an expensive weapon.
I have tremendous respect for this group their discipline an dedication does show through on their postings.

@Ranziel1 John had no idea the sword would break. He was (somewhat recklessly) hacking away at green bamboo with a Del Tin. He did not realise the sword would break (see his expletive at 9 seconds). I've been in HEMA long enough to remember the original video and posts about this - there was no 'point' intended - this was an accident, not a demonstration of any point.

@NikovK John did not "expect" this result. Please... Note the expletive "F*ck" at 9 seconds and the way he (quite understandably) fliches away from the cut when he realises the sword broke.
