Sadly, even if the correct direction the web should take is a encrypted flow of data, governments will always want to have either a back door, or laws that will force you to unencrypt data whenever they please. Specially at airports, I've heard of people that aren't remotely suspicious of anything, but at customs their computers are checked and forced to unencrypt data or give passwords for fear of not having their PCs back. Even then, they keep them for weeks...

"When you send an email, it is often encrypted using the SSL protocol"
More accurately, if you're using a webmail service such as gmail, then it's likely your connection to the mail service (including the login and content of any emails sent back and forth) would be encrypted. However, the email itself, unless using some sort of PGP or other encryption is not encrypted whatsoever. Often when using third party email clients the connection is not encrypted, and when it is, TLS is more likely.

why would we be using keyloggers? What do they have to do with cryptography? you're just flaunting your scriptkiddie knowledge. A word of advice: to excel in truly *any* field, you must make an effort. "Hacking" (cracking, really) is an application of several fields - system administration (UNIX), system programming (C), cryptography etc. Crackers aren't cool. They're people just like the teacher here, or some other security expert. They only use that same knowledge for being malicious.

There is a "Computer Security Class" MAYBE there, since its free i suggest you to take both. If youre in Infosec, both classes will be great. And they are starting now.
