  • this is awesome. singular. idiosyncratic. it's hard not to be bored by the tchaikovsky after hearing it performed in the same manner. he savors each note. much like bronislaw huberman. the violin dances like it should. this is beautiful. thank you for uploading this :)

it's a shame this bel canto art is non-existent today. i cant really think of one violinist with enough personality to display this light-hearted dancing above the music, this playfulness with meter and richness of phrasing.

  • op.39?!

  • Beautiful portemento!

  • Really ordinary playing. A scratchathon in the off-string double stop sections. Elman/Barbirolli in 1929 is THE recording of this piece.

  • campoli was a truly special violinist, my mum used to learn with him

  • i heard him as a kid playing in a hotel in dar es salaam in the mid fifties . just thought i'd type in his name for fun after listening to the hungarian gypsy orchestra ! ! !

  • Interseting editing : Campoli was a fab and serious musician working at a time when he was obliged to do "light music" to earn a living: but his Elgar for one is anything but light weight: apart from playing every note with cystal clarity and dazzling cleanliness he offers a moving but not sentimental interpretation (I played it with him when he as 70, his upper range hearing had gon a bit a flat by then) not sure the Tchaik is up to that standard but, hey, its really good stuff. gret to hear
