Hirsch Electronics and Tracewell Systems have teamed up to provide a solution to secure access to laptops containing sensitive information. This video describes how Hirsch has helped the US military enhance the efficiency of field maintenance of sophisticated weapons systems, eliminate the need to print, distribute and manually update paper service manuals, and reduce cost, in a secure and auditable fashion. Authorized staff gain access to electronically locked and monitored cabinets by presenting the DOD-issued identification card to the Hirsch card reader, and entering their PIN code on the built-in keypad. After authentication, the system unlocks one of the cabinet drawers that hold a laptop. When the technician completes his work, he again presents his card and PIN, and the same drawer from which he removed the laptop is unlocked, allowing return of the laptop. Each event is recorded in the database is available for later review and reporting.
Access to weapons lockers, pharmaceutical vaults, server farm cages, etc. may be managed in a similar manner.
