Feeding the fish at Molasses Reef off Key Largo. When I ran out of squid, one of the fish bit me on the knee. I tried to get even but the fish can swim faster than me.

They liked the squid much better than chunks of ballyhoo. They also liked the bait bombs I made using sand, ground up sardines and herring, and of course menhaden milk. Make your own bait bombs by grinding up bait (sardines, herring, ballyhoo, mullet, shrimp cull, squid - or whatever you have). Then add 3 parts fresh water to one part menhaden oil or milk to lots of sand till you have a nasty smelling think paste like mud. Then add the ground up bait mess. Mix well. Then fill up some plastic cups with the sand and freeze them solid.

On the fishing grounds, or the diving reef, remove the frozen bait bombs from the cups and toss em overboard. They will sink to the bottom, releasing particles of ground up nastiness and leaving a fish oil slick. Brings all the reef fish out to see what is going on.

Remember to not throw the plastic cups overboard, as that is illegal.
