UPDATE: U.S. Appeals Court Overturns Evangelist's Convictions for Preaching Near Liberty Bell http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs005/1102142477002/archive/1103487580457....
On October 6, 2007, Michael Marcavage, director of Repent America (RA), was arrested for street preaching on a public sidewalk near the entrance of the Liberty Bell Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -- the birthplace of American freedom -- by National Park Service Rangers. As Michael preached to those waiting in line to see the Liberty Bell, Ranger Alan Saperstein, on a number of occassions interrupted the preaching and ordered him and the other members of the ministry team to relocate to a "free speech zone" nowhere near the area.

@kreyente100 The United States of America was NOT founded on christian beliefs in ANY way. The founding fathers have many quotes that shows their distaste for religion and as John Adams put it int the Treaty of Tripoli, article 11 "The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion." They simply wanted us to be able to have the freedom. "Under God" and :In God we trust" on in our pledge and money was instituted during the Red Scare of the 50s.

I think these preaching fools are ridiculous. But they are 100% fully within their rights as US citizens. The police do NOT have the power to order us around, even though they think they do. The job of the police is to 'protect and serve' the public, NOT the government.

@MattFrame; the heart of the issue is that as US citizens, we have the right to preach in public property as long as we are not disrupting peace. Now, the reason why people don't wanna hear this is cuz they love their sins so much that are offended the the truth; that one day they we ALL stand before a righteous God and He will judge us ALL....
this country was based in the bible, but it has become so filled with wickedness that the word of God is "almost" lawful

Why do religious fanatics think they can ram their chosen lifestyle down the public's throats, without censure? People of moral character find the anger, aggression & hatred these "preachers" espouse to be deeply deviant, yet they continue to flaunt their lifestyle in public, where even children can be affected. They need to keep this stuff in the closet where it belongs, instead of demanding special rights to harass decent people in public. Next they'll want to teach their agenda in schools!

@ggonjon Incorrect. The law protects the person speaking. Any one is free to not listen, walk away.

Exactly. 2 + 2 = 4 in the same way that the First Amendment = Freedom of Speech. Whenever the government dictates what people learn, they only hinder them from hearing what they need to hear about, particularly the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
