Every year during Christmas Day, I try as hard as I can to make time to try my Backyard Bag Feeder Project with the local gulls.

  • Looks like there are hybridized Herring-Laughing gulls that compete with the laughing gulls. You notice the immature Herring gulls totally rule the situation. Even the mature pure laughing gulls have no chance with the immature Herring gulls. Lol, the gulls here do this all over the alleys now. They removed all dumpsters by law, so now all trash has to be discarded in plastic bags, which the larger Western Gulls here get right into.

  • @mariojragucci2 - I love watching gulls tear into things - :) Most of my gulls aren't Laughing gulls though, they're Ring-Billeds - I think I've only seen one Laughing gull in the past 10 years of recording them, and Herrings are pretty sparse too - you only see them occasionally, and very rarely a mature one! They definitely rule their territory though, the Ring-Billeds always defer to a Herring gull!

  • is he eating a seat cushion?

  • Hehe... *kind* of... :) What they're pecking at is "The Backyard Bag Feeder Project" - which is an enrichment project I designed that's basically a cushion with food in it. They have to peck through the bag to get to the food inside, it's designed that way to see how much effort the gulls (or other animals, my channel is more or less centered around that project) go through to get the food out of it. Gulls are usually pretty wary of the feeder, but when there are more of them, they love it!

  • Thats a great video. The gulls are having a feast! Good job!!

  • Thanks! I just love watching gulls go for the food! They really seem to like dogfood, believe it or not!

  • Thanks! The Herring Gulls really seem to like the food! Nice name, by the way! :)

  • Very cool! It would be cool to have a gull's nest on the roof, I've always thought... I don't think many other people would agree with that though, sadly...

  • The one at 1.44 filled his chops!

    great video :D

  • Lovely vid of such beautiful birds. They are my absolute fave. I always feed the gulls out my back garden, mostly when the babies leave the nest, i like to give them a helping hand lol
