David Harvey Speaks to Occupy Philly outside Police HQ

David Harvey, a CUNY professor, author, and groundbreaking theorist on the right to the city, visited Occupy Philly on Wednesday, November 30. He spoke at our General Assembly as we waited outside the Roundhouse (Philly's police headquarters) for about 50 of our comrades to be released the day after our eviction from the plaza in front of City Hall.
Telling us, "You have already changed the nature of the conversation," he urged us to keep up the fight.

the US is not in debt because of a single (miniscule) bank bailout, much of which has to be repaid anyway. Its debt comes from decades of borrowed funding for social programs and military spending. Taxing the rich to fund increased spending, whether it be on education or wealth redistribution, will not solve the debt problem.
