The deadline has been reached and no new entries are being accepted. Thank you to everyone who entered.
This is a lot of videos to go through, so the winner will be announced... sometime. (-: Check my profile description for the current judging status.
The Rules:
1.) I pick the winner. If you disagree with my choice, you're free to express your dissenting opinion, but since it's my DVDs I'm giving out, I get to choose who gets them.
2.) You can choose any episode you want, it doesn't have to be the first one. By the way, it doesn't have to be anime, either: it can be Western animation or even live action if that's your preference. You can also abridge all or part of a movie if you really want, but that might be tough to do within a week.
3.) All entries must be posted as a response to this video by Monday 4/27/09 at 11:59 pm, Arizona time. Google can help you adjust for time zones for those who live elsewhere.
4.) You must choose a series that nobody's done before. For the purposes of this contest, if you do a simple YouTube search for [Name of Series] Abridged and any full, numbered episodes come up in the first page of search results, it's not allowed. If all that comes up are casting calls, announcements, "tests," "betas," or trailers, it's still okay.
5.) You have to choose a series/movie/whatever that starts with the letter G.
If you have any questions about the rules, post them in the comments and I'll try to get back to you in a timely manner.
Edit:
Q & A:
Q: If I already have an abridged series that starts with the letter G, can I just post a new episode of that within the next week for the contest?
A: Nope, it has to be something that NOBODY, including yourself, has ever posted an episode of before. People who've already worked on an abridged series are welcome to enter, but they have to abridge something that they've never abridged before.
Q: So what if someone else is working on it but they haven't posted an episode yet?
A: It's only not allowed if there's already at least one finished episode up on YouTube. So even if someone's announced that they're going to do it in the future, released a trailer, made a casting call, or posted a preview version of an episode marked "preview" or "incomplete" or "beta" or something, it's still fair game.
Q: Does Gundam count as starting with G, or M?
A: Hmm, good question. In the interests of there being more series to choose from, I'll say, sure, if a show is commonly referred to with a G name, it can still count even if the full version of the title technically has another word in front of the G word.
Q: What about something that has a fandub on YouTube?
A: If it doesn't show up on the first page of search results under "[Name of Series] Abridged," it's fair game, even if it already has a fandub going under another name.
Q: It doesn't have to be an anime, right?
A: Right. It can be anime, Western animation, a video game, a movie, or even live action.
Q: Can people who are already active in another abridged series enter?
A: Yes, as long as they choose a series that starts with the letter G and nobody, including themselves, has already released an episode of it.
Q: Can two different entrants choose the same series?
A: Yes, that's fine.
Q: Can I get people to help me?
A: Yes, as long as you decide in advance which of you gets the prize if you win.
Q: Can I enter more than once?
A: Yes, if you think you can make two different videos within the time allowed.
Q: What about series where the full title doesn't start with G, but it's commonly shortened so that it starts with a G?
A: I'll decide those on a case-by-case basis.
Q: So it can't have even one single episode, even if it's a failed attempt from over a year ago?
A: If it shows up on the first page of YT search results, it's out, no matter how old it is.
Q: What about a show that's known by different names in different places? For example, Groove Adventure Rave is called Rave Master in the US. Does that count?
A: That one would meet the G rule (you can use either the Japanese or the American name to meet the G rule, I don't care), but since there's already a Rave Master Abridged on YT, that particular example won't work.
Note: I've come up against the size limit on video descriptions, so do a CTRL+F search of the comments if your question isn't answered here.
