REDWING
There once was an Indian maid a shy little prairie maid
who sang all day a love song gay as through the fields she'd while the hours away.
She loved an Indian brave this shy little prairie maid
and then one day he rode away to battle far away..

{Chorus}
Oh the moon shines tonight on pretty Red Wing,
the breeze is sighing, the night birds crying,
For a far far away her brave is dying
and Red Wings's crying her heart away.

She watched for him day and night,
She kept all the campfires bright,
And under the sky,
Each night she would lie,
And dream about his coming by and by
But when all the braves returned the heart of Red Wing yearned
for far far away her warrior brave fell bravely in the fray.

{chorus}
Now the Moon shines tonight on pretty Redwing,
the breeze is sighing, the night birds crying,
for a far'neath his star her brave is sleeping,
while Redwing's weeping her heart away.

    I've been searching for this song for years! A lady at our church use to play it for me back in the 60's 70's, and I thought I would never find it again. And what is so nice is that it is played just like she played it!!!! Wonderful!!! I'll listen again and again, it blesses my heart.

  • My Grandma use to play to me when I was just a little girl and it took me almost 30 years to hear someone play it just like she did.. Thanks for the heart felt memory

  • I have this song on an Edison cylinder record!

  • Nice playing Grandma, let's here some more tunes...

  • oh my gosh.. My dad says that my grandma was GIFTED on piano.. I can imagine her playing it like that. She learned this on accordian. It's kind of sad for me because they played this song at her funeral last december.. This is my grandma's song (literally)

  • I'm always taken back to this. I love it! Reminds of me of when I was little. When good times and entertainment was had at home. I fear those times will be soon lost forever. Keep it going strong!
