Lillian Yonally was one of the few women with a camera during her WASP service from May 1943 to December 1944. Her color photographs offer a rare glimpse into the short-lived program and the female pilots who were ahead of their time.

  • these photos are amazing. great video.

  • What a terrific idea to put together video clip full of Lillian Yonally's comments and color images. It brings it alive for those of us who didn't experience it or learn about it in school. Thank you!

  • Most remarkable. Respect.

  • Memory Day ...Not More...Not Less Gundam

  • Thanks to Lillian & NPR for putting this together. This is an amazing and too often overlooked piece of history. This gives me a rare glimpse into my own mother's life as she was in the same WASP class @ Sweetwater & B-25 school.

  • I was a WAC in training for my job at Chanute Field. One of the WASP had a bunk down the aisle from me. Our feeling about her was AWE! And admiration. She left all her possessions and stuff for her family on her bunk each time she went off on a mission. Let me assure you all that we knew about her and her outfit and we were so proud.

  • I met Lillian last night at a lecture series, and she is an amazing testament to the human spirit.

  • This is the stuff that keeps me coming back to youtube!

  • Great! that's the power of women... ;)

  • This was great! I never knew about these gals.

My brother is a corporate jet pilot and my sister is a flight attendant...our father had a private license.

Me? I stay on the ground...flying is just fine, it's the crashing that troubles me...;D
