Dr. Raymond Juzaitis, head of the Nuclear Engineering Department at Texas A&M University talks about the world nuclear "renaissance" and the nonproliferation challenges of countries' growing infrastructure for nuclear fuel cycle at a luncheon seminar at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. He highlights the need for proliferation resistant fuel cycle, nuclear materials awareness, and strengthening the scope and effectiveness of safeguards.
Nice speech, I am a student his department at A&M and have been impressed by Dr. Juzaitus' talents and knowledge.

Although the SL-1 experimental power reactor project in Idaho was not a civilian operation, in 1961 it experienced an explosive supercritical accident resulting in three deaths. SL-1 was a live test of a unit intended to power remote military outposts.
There was a 1/4" plate steel containment building, far less than the massive concrete structures surrounding all present-day power reactors.
Some see it as another argument against, or like myself, as a lesson to help us harness the source!
