The caramel is made by simply melting down store bought caramels in a crock pot. This will take a few hours, so plan ahead. You can add heavy cream to the caramel to thin it out: when I do, I measure it by eye - but I'd say roughly a 1/4 - 1/2 cup for a full crock put of caramels.
