  • is it safe to touch the baby after birth? i mean like pet it or will the mom wont accept it becuase she smells your scent on it

  • @jenafayegirl11 Yes, it's perfectly ok to touch the babies after birth. It's important that she bound to the kid through cleaning it off, which helps them imprint on each other more than anything. It's more beneficial to the mother and kids to be at the birth in order to assist if needed than to not be present at the birth. Most of the time the doe doesn't need any assistance during the birth, but may need help cleaning off the kids, especially if she has more than one.

  • There is one important thing about animal births you forgot. Just keep your mouth close next time.

  • @gluttom Our animals are very used to us talking to them, so my voice is soothing, especially to this particular doe. One thing to remember is that each farmer has their own way of doing things. In other words, "My farm, my rules."

  • Aww that was beautiful, the babies are so precious! <3 Poor mama though, she was really straining, you could hear and see her pain and discomfort..how do you know when you should/need to assist? And how are they all doing now?

  • @VampressOfDarkness Drama Mama has always had a normal kidding, that's why we choose to sit back and record her progress. It's important to be present during the kidding in the case we do need to assist. If the doe is in hard labor and is not progressing, we'll go in to check her cervix and make sure the kids are presenting correctly (feet first). Sometimes kids get tangled up and need help making it out one at a time. These kids are both doing well and went to homes as pets.
