In the last season of Good Times, JJ had matured a lot and his previous funny character had diminished somewhat. The Good Times show was mainly based on Florida as a spinoff of Maude. And I have read articles that Florida would complain about JJ's character as being to buffonish. That is one reason why she left the show for one season, and she wanted JJ's character to tone down after she came back. I really think that Florida was jealous of the fact the JJ's character overshawdoed hers.
